You can make a difference this #GivingTuesday!

Coming together with our family and friends during this holiday season reminds us of how grateful we are. At Stone Soup Films, we’re grateful for the many volunteers who give their time and talent to helping us make films for our nonprofit partners. We’re grateful for our supporters whose generosity helps us continue our important work. We’re grateful to the countless individuals who’ve let us tell their stories of transformation and our nonprofit partners who contribute to their success.

Today is #GivingTuesday, an international day of generosity that kicks off giving season, and today you can make a significant impact on the partners we serve. We’re the only nonprofit in the country providing expert, pro bono digital storytelling services to nonprofits in need. Currently, we’re going into production on our 100th film to date, we’ve launched our new application portal, and we’re on track to reach our goal of producing another 24 films this year. Stone Soup Films is growing rapidly, and we’d like to do even more in 2017!

Here are a few ways you can help for #GivingTuesday and all giving season long:

Stone Soup Films is Seeking an Executive Director!

cameragreen_transparentThis year, on the occasion of the completion of our 100th film, we are very excited to announce that Stone Soup Films will be undergoing an Executive Leadership Transition. “We are way overdue for an experienced management professional to finally bring this organization to the scale it deserves and meet the overwhelming demand for our work” said founder and outgoing ED Liz Norton.

This is an exciting time here at Stone Soup Films and we are seeking a dynamic leader to take our organization to the next level. We are hiring an Executive Director to build on 8 years of success by leading our talented staff in achieving our vision, sustaining and enhancing our programs, increasing funding, and ensuring our work continues to meet critical community needs.

Spring 2015 at Stone Soup Films

2015 finds Stone Soup very busy producing films for our newest nonprofit partners, as well as participating in DC’s film community.

Here are a few partner films which recently premiered:

Bishop Walker

Teen Pregnancy Film

In February we were selected by the DC Environmental Film Festival to screen our film “The Anacostia River: Making Connections” three times at three different venues across the Capital. This brought additional recognition to the critically important issue of the health of the Anacostia River, our local water source and  beloved natural playground for humans and animals.

Lined up for the near future are more partner films, as well as our May DOC IN A DAY event, which will be taking place over the weekend of May 30th and 31st! We are currently seeking interested organizations that would like a film made and volunteers with camera and editing experience that would like to be involved on a team!  Please email Melissa at for details and to save your space on a team.

Finally, please stay tuned for our upcoming Open House which will be held in the magnificent outdoor courtyard of our new location at 1921 Sunderland Place, NW, in the Dupont area. Details are forthcoming!

As always, a huge thank you to all our donors, partners, interns, and volunteers who make these films possible.

Fall 2014 at Stone Soup Films!

Lots has been happening this fall at Stone Soup Films!
We just had our 2014 Annual Fundraiser event.  You can see a blog about how the evening unfolded here.

We just completed two films, which have not premiered yet: DC Diaper Bank and Reading Partners. More news on those when they debut.

We are currently deep in post production on a film about Anacostia River cleanup efforts for the Summit Fund of DC, and we are very excited to debut that in November.

Here are a few videos that recently premiered:
Capital Area Asset Builders provides financial literacy training for DC area individuals.
Our September Doc-in-a-Day provided 5 quality videos to area non-profits: The Bike House, Blind/Art Whino, Georgetown Heritage, Speakeasy DC, and The Washington Humane Society.
Our excellent summer interns this year also made this DC Hero piece highlighting Thelma Duren, a DC resident that single handedly started a summer camp for children in her neighborhood.

We are so excited about what we have accomplished and the projects that we are currently working on.  As always, a huge thank you to all our volunteers that make these films possible. <3
